
Julie London (nee Peck, September 26, 1926 - October 18 2000) is an American performer and actress who worked for over 40 years. A torch singer noted for her sultry, languid contralto vocals, London recorded over thirty albums of jazz and pop standards between 1955 between the years 1955 and 1969. Inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001 was her performance of "Cry Me a River" which she introduced to her debut album. London was nominated in 1974 for the Golden Globe Award as a actress for her role in Emergency The Adventures of Dixie McCall. London was born in Santa Rosa to vaudevillian parents. Her career began acting as an actress as she was employed as an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles. London's 35-year acting career began with film in 1944. It featured roles as the female lead in numerous westerns. She signed a recording deal with Liberty Records in the mid-1950s. It was the beginning of her professional music career. The album she recorded her final studio album released in the year 1969. She continued to enjoy success as the female star role of Dixie McCall on the television series Emergency! (1972-1979) In the show, she acted with her husband Bobby Troup. Jack Webb, her ex-husband who produced the show.
